Tarifa isn’t just wind, beach and watersports. It’s also a land of contrasts – where mountains meet the sea, where pine forests hide ancient paths, and where breathtaking views reward every step. If you love walking and reconnecting with nature, Tarifa will surprise you.
From Hotel 100% Fun, you can easily access some of the most beautiful hiking routes in the area, combining landscape, history and adventure, suitable for all levels.
Here are two must-do hiking routes that we highly recommend:
1. Cerro del Tambor Trail – Peña Viewpoint
Distance: 5.5 km (round trip) Estimated duration: 2 hours Level: Easy – great for families Starting point: Parking area near El Rancho restaurant (10 mins by car from the hotel) Highlights: panoramic views of the Strait, local flora, stunning sunsets

This is a gentle trail ideal for a relaxed walk that leads to one of the most spectacular viewpoints overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. The path takes you through typical Mediterranean vegetation – pine, rockrose, wild olive – and opens up to a natural lookout where the sea and the African mountains meet on the horizon.
On clear days, you can clearly see Morocco – a magical view that will stay with you.
Bolonia Dune to Betis via San Bartolomé Ridge
Distance: 10 km (loop) Estimated duration: 3.5 hours Level: Moderate – with some uphill sections Starting point: Bolonia Dune car park Highlights: Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia, mountain and ocean views, charming rural village

This trail is perfect for adventurous souls. It starts at the iconic Bolonia Dune, then climbs along forested paths towards the San Bartolomé ridge, offering breathtaking views over the coastline. The route descends to the peaceful whitewashed village of Betis, before looping back along sea cliffs.
To top it off, you can cool down with a swim at Bolonia Beach or visit the nearby Baelo Claudia Roman ruins, a true archaeological gem.
